This is the definitive source about the Ramsey case, written by a detective who worked on it from the beginning. The author is brutally candid about the failures of both the DA Alex Hunter and the Boulder PD. He pulls no punches when he details how bizarre some of the decisions were surrounding this case. For instance, DA Hunter wouldn't let detectives get warrants to search things like the Ramey's phone and credit card records. He wouldn't approve them for surveillance. The detectives couldn't get the Ramseys in for a face-to-face interview and were told to FAX them written questions. Meanwhile, the Ramseys would be claiming to the media they were "cooperating" with police. They weren't. They stalled, obfuscated, hid behind a phalanx of lawyers, gave up their "friends" as potential murder suspects while pretending to be friends with them, whined to the media about how unfairly they were being treated and in general acted like people with something to hide.The Ramseys were treated with kid gloves, unlike any other murder suspects in history. A grand jury indicted Patsy and John Ramsey for murder, but DA Hunter made it sound in press conference that they didn't, and he refused to press charges.
